The Phase One P65+ Digital Back

The new P65 digital back is causing a stir in the world of pro photographers for its larger sensor and enormous sensor resolution. As Paul Walsh, on the rental Desk put it: “Basically it’s 60 big fat megapixels worth. When it comes down to resolution and image quality, that’s what you want.”

Given that until recently the largest sensor resolution was 39 MP, which could comfortably produce files capable of printing up to 30 x 40 inches, the P65+ signifies something of a quantum leap for photographers wanting to go even bigger.

    • It’s a digital back for photographers who need to shoot at the extremes of image quality performance, where only the highest resolution, lowest noise, widest dynamic range will do. And that’s not all. The sensor, measuring 40.4 X 53.9mmis the closest there has ever been to a real full frame 645 medium format back. This means 20% higher resolution for the same pixel density, and the ability to use existing 645 format wide angle lenses at their intended coverage.
